DHEA-SULFATE
Why should Men and Women Order this Test?

Diagnose tumors of the outer layer of the adrenal gland and adrenal cancers
Assist in diagnosing congenital adrenal hyperplasia and adult onset adrenal hyperplasia.

About 10% of hirsute women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) have elevated DHEA-S but normal levels of other androgens.
To distinguish between DHEA-secreting conditions that are caused by the Adrenal Glands from those that originate in the ovaries, ovarian tumors, although rare.
