Why Take This Test?

Insulin levels are ordered when a low or high glucose test is noted on examination or the patient is presenting with acute or chronic symptoms of low (hypoglycemia) with the following symptoms:

• Sweating
• Heart Palpitations
• Frequent Hunger
• Confusion or Cognitive Changes
• Blurred Vision Randomly
• Dizziness and Fainting
• Seizures and Loss Of Consciousness - serious cases

These symptoms may indicate other conditions as well so an insulin test is ordered to rule out diabetes, pre-diabetes or insulin resistance along with a C-Peptide Test.

*Insulin Test measures the how much insulin is made by the body ab how much was introduced via an insulin shot;

*C-Peptide Test measures insulin produced by the pancreas only.

*Both Insulin and C-Peptide Should Be Ordered Together.

Test Prep: Fasting Required. Do not eat or drink anything except water for 8 hours prior to testing.
